There are many situations in which a more detailed understanding of your cognitive and psychological patterns can be helpful, including:

Memory Loss - You may have noticed that your memory is not as sharp or reliable as it once was. Perhaps you've been concerned that this could be an indication of a developing medical problem. Neuropsychological testing can assist in determining whether your memory is what it should be for your age, and what might be causing any noticeable decline.

Diminished Performance - You (or others) may have noticed that your work performance has been slipping lately. At home you may be having more difficulty meeting your usual responsibilities. Neuropsychological evaluation can be used to look for possible reasons and develop strategies to neutralize those reasons.

Personality Changes - You (or others) may have noticed that you are more irritable, withdrawn, or indifferent. -- or more silly and not taking important things as seriously as you usually would. Neuropsychological evaluation can help to understand the reasons for such changes and plan approaches to address problems arising from those changes.

Baseline Measurement of Cognitive Functions - You may have an older relative whose mental functions have deteriorated markedly with age, perhaps even developing a condition such as Alzheimer's disease. You may therefore be interested in getting baseline measurement of your cognitive functions, to make early detection of any cognitive slippage more possible.

Adjustment to Life Changes - You or a loved one may be getting on in years and becoming concerned about whether it is time to consider moving to housing that would provide more assistance and supervision. You may be wondering if it is getting time to consider giving up driving, time to have someone provide more assistance with managing household finances, or other issues of independence.

Legal Issues - You may be involved in legal proceedings, and need to determine whether you are capable of meaningfully assisting your attorney or making important decisions that would withstand legal scrutiny. Neuropsychological evaluation can provide an objective basis for determining your ability to do so.

Documenting the Effects of Brain Injury - You may have recently been involved in an accident involving head injury, and are wondering whether the injury has produced changes in thinking or behavior. Neuropsychological evaluation can help determine this.

Neuropsychological Rehabilitation - You may have had a medical condition affecting your brain's functioning, such as head injury or stroke, and are interested in better understanding the effects of the injury and what might be done to offset some of them.
